Congratulations Sarah and Keith!

Our first wedding of the new year was fantastic! What a way to get off on the right foot. Sarah and Keith are an amazing couple, with a really fun and loving family!

We were so fortunate to be given the opportunity to document their wedding day. Sarah has these amazing big brown eyes that just sparkle when she looks at Keith. You just know they were meant for each other.

It was a beautiful day and we could not have been more lucky with the weather considering rain was in the forecast. We even got to take a couple fast portraits with Keith's awesome car!

Their reception was so fun! Ya gotta love a family that is not afraid to macarena, chicken dance, bunny hop AND electric slide! Makes for some fun photos!

Congratulations guys- we wish you all the best!

Congratulations Natalie and Matt!

What a way to end a year! Our last wedding of 2007 was Natalie and Matt- another fantastic couple getting married in the Mesa Temple.

Natalie looked beautiful- and Matt was very charming in his red bow tie. They chose incredibly beautiful and interesting flowers to go with their very creative and stunning asian themed reception!

I truly had a great time photographing their special day and amazing reception. I don't think the smile left my face the whole time- and heaven knows they were smiling too!

Congratulations guys- we wish you the best of luck and a world of happiness!

Congratulations Brook and Cory!

I am a smidge behind in my Congrats posts...Its been a busy month or so. I apologize.

Congratulations Brook and Cory! I recently had the honor of capturing a beautiful wedding day just before Christmas for Brook and Cory- they were so happy together!

Cory looked dapper in his military duds, and Brook was absolutely radiant in a beautifully detailed dress!

They had a lovely reception, with many friends and family that evening which was beautifully done in a lovely back yard tent!

We wish them the best of luck in their new home in Washington- what a great couple!

Congratulations Michelle and Tanner!

Friday, I had the pleasure of photographing Michelle and Tanner after their sealing at the Mesa AZ temple. Her mom booked us all the way from Kansas! While AZ is not exactly a premiere wedding destination, it was so cool to meet family and friends from a bit of everywhere!

Michelle and Tanner looked so happy! Despite the unusually windy day, we had a blast creating beautiful temple portraits! And those shoes...aren't they just fantastic!

Congrats Michelle and Tanner- we are so happy for you two!

Congratulations April and Duane

Cross posted from www.aztempleweddings.com...

April and Duane were sealed this last Saturday at the Mesa temple. We had a lot of fun a couple months ago (despite the heat) with these guys doing their engagement portraits and were very excited that their big day had arrived! These guys are so much fun- and an incredible sweet, totally head over heels in love couple!

A serious congrats to these two- I had an awesome time photographing them. Their friends and family are very lucky to know people as cool as April and Duane!

Portraits: Personal Stories

Over the weekend, I was happy to put together some images for Ashleigh, an aspiring model. Her images do something all images should do- they communicate. They convey an intricate story, an emotion.

Those icy blue eyes draw the viewer into the image- like they would into a good conversation. So many portrait photographers ignore this important feature, in favor of other hollow distractions.
We took several images that day, and the overall turn out was quite good. These images say something about the model, each one a little story of its own. Her intensity, femininity, and natural beauty shine thorough each shot.

Its important that your portraits speak to you, and to others who view them. What does your portrait have to say?

Weathering the Storm

I have to admit, there are very few times I like the weather here in AZ. Its generally miserably hot and the light can be incredibly harsh- leaving folks to book shoots at 6am half the year.

But during the monsoon season, the weather becomes a bit less harsh and a lot more surprising. We get a reprieve from the heat- and down comes the rain.

The rain out here is not quite like what the rest of the country thinks it is. Its sporadic and unpredictable. I have seen a large storm miss whole sides of the valley, and I have seen one side of a road be drenched, and the other bone dry.

Cooling and life giving, we spend most of the year begging for the rain. And when we get it, its a beautiful thing!

Temple weddings have become a big staple in our business- primarily because we love them! We lucked out last week, when Ashley and Garth got out of their sealing right at golden hour! The grounds were really quiet, especially for a Friday, and everything was illuminated with the last rich rays of the day.

There are certain moments of the day when the Mesa temple exceeds the beauty of all the others. Granted, its design is very simple next to the greats like Salt Lake or San Diego...but when that light hits it just right, its pure magic! Each architectural element from the intricate brick work to the paned windows transforms into something rich and decadent.

What a beautiful evening for a temple wedding- and for a stroll at on the temple grounds.
